Montenegro’s Mountain Majesty to Adriatic Charm

Spanning 32 km through Montenegro’s dramatic landscapes, this route connects the historic capital of Cetinje to the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor, winding through rugged mountains, medieval villages, and dizzying serpentine roads.

Begin in Cetinje, Montenegro’s 15th-century royal capital. Fuel up and visit: Cetinje Monastery: Houses sacred relics, including a piece of the True Cross. King Nikola’s Palace: A museum showcasing Montenegro’s royal history.

    Key Stops & Highlights

    1. Lovćen National Park. Lovćen Mountain: Drive up the 25-hairpin road to Njegoš Mausoleum (1,657 m), with 360° views of Montenegro. Ivanova Korita: A serene alpine meadow for short hikes or picnics.
    2. Njeguši Village. A stone hamlet famous for Njeguški pršut (smoked prosciutto) and homemade cheese. Birthplace of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš: Montenegro’s poet-prince and national hero.
    3. Kotor Serpentine Road. Descend 1,000+ meters via 25 hairpin turns with sheer cliffs and Adriatic vistas. Kotor Bay Lookout (Ladder of Kotor): Pull over for a photo of the fjord-like bay.

The road concludes in Kotor, a medieval walled city on the Adriatic. Explore: St. Tryphon’s Cathedral: A 12th-century Romanesque gem. Kotor Fortress: Hike 1,350 steps up the city walls for sweeping bay views.
